Scheme proposals

The proposals for Kirkstall Abbey Park consist of activity focussed transformation including new play/trim trail equipment and learning and performance space, along with broader landscape and infrastructure improvements.

The following are initial proposals which we would like to hear your feedback on.

* Please note that all images are for illustrative purposes only.

  • Trim trail items to be placed around the park where appropriate.

  • Woodland planting and wildflower will help increase the biodiversity.

  • Play area to be extended to include play opportunities for all ages and abilities.   Including some bespoke and more imaginative play items as well as interactive digital play.  More seating and picnic tables to be added.

  • New performance and learning space to be created in old bowling green, which contains amphitheatre and stage for events and activities.

  • The walled garden and paths to be repaired and repainted with low maintenance, high impact planting.   There is scope to include some artistic/sculptural elements throughout the gardens.

  • Reinforced grass parking will offer some overspill parking from the main car park Abbey House Museum during busy times but still retaining the look of the large open grassed space when not in use and reducing the impact of parking on Vesper Lane.
  • Footpath upgrades to include some widening and new surfacing.

  • Renewed gardens with contemporary drought resistant planting will help reduce maintenance and increase biodiversity as well as providing visual interest throughout the year.
